In many situations it is possible to remove the diseased and/or loose teeth and replace them with dental implants at the same time. This method of treatment reduces the number of surgical visits. It also speeds up the entire process enabling the implants to be ready to receive (caps/crowns) more quickly.
An implant is a titanium "root" which can be placed into the jawbone. A single tooth implant can be used to support a crown in cases where one missing or damaged tooth needs to be replaced.
Once the implants are integrated with your bone, they can be used to support multiple crowns, a bridge, or secure a complete denture. Multiple tooth dental implants may be used to eliminate partial plates and dentures.
A bridge is made up of two or more crowns and is attached using the teeth on either side of the gap. The anchoring teeth are called abutment teeth and hold the bridge in place. Dental bridges can use natural teeth or implants to be held in place.
Partial dentures are used when all some of the teeth are missing from either the upper or lower arches of your mouth.
Full arch dentures are used when all the teeth are missing from either the upper or lower arches of your mouth.
